AEW Grand Slam 2022 is three days away as it is scheduled to take place during AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage on September 21, 2022 and September 23, 2022 respectively. AEW has made thirteen matches officials for this event. Even though AEW Grand Slam 2022 is not a PPV event, there is still a lot of hype behind this weekly special event. The following will provide match card predictions for potential match card based on the current feuds in AEW. It’s now time to preview and predict one of the biggest weekly specials of the year: AEW Grand Slam 2022.
Swerve In Our Glory (c) vs. The Acclaimed [AEW Tag Team Championships]
The Acclaimed will defeat Swerve In Our Glory to become the new AEW Tag Team Champions because Keith Lee and Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Stricklend are on the verge of breaking up and The Acclaimed have developed their gimmick to the point that it has become championship material. Keith Lee and Stricklend can blow off their feud at AEW Full Gear 2022, so losing the titles before then would make sense. The Acclaimed have a plethora of babyface challengers to keep the division fresh in the months to come.
Prediction: The Acclaimed
Jade Cargill (c) vs. Diamante [AEW TBS Title]
Jade Cargill will defeat Diamante to retain the TBS Women’s Championship and continue her winning streak. Kris Statlander was supposed to be a vital component of this feud, but her injury unfortunately hindered her from this extraterrestrial opportunity and left her off the shelf for 6-8 months. Diamante is not even a credible challenger for Jade Cargill right now due to her lacking momentum, so the result of this title match should be as predictable as the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly.
Prediction: Jade Cargill
Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Ricky Starks [Grudge Match]
Powerhouse Hobbs will defeat Ricky Starks to fully solidify his nascent heel turn on Starks without falling into the trap of unnecessary 50:50 booking. He squashed Starks at All Out, so this match will go longer to showcase Hobbs’ skills whilst still maintain his dominance. This should set up Hobbs for a future TNT Title opportunity against Wardlow for Full Gear. Hobbs has been built like a monster heel just like Wardlow before he broke away from MJF, so it will be cool to see their worlds collide soon.
Prediction: Powerhouse Hobbs
Hook & Action Bronson vs. 2 Point 0 [Tag Match]
Hook and Action Bronson will defeat 2 Point 0 because Hook needs to maintain his momentum as the FTW Champion and Action Bronson is a celebrity who is clearly here for the easy dub. This match is happening basically because 2 Point 0 attacked Hook at All Out and Action Bronson ran in to save Hook. Although 2 Point 0 are part of the Jericho Appreciation Society, they are merely enhancement talent who have no business defeating Hook right now. This should be a cake walk.
Prediction: Hook & Action Bronson
Jungle Boy vs. Rey Fenix [Grudge Match]
Jungle Boy will defeat Rey Fenix because Jungle Boy needs to continue his momentum until his main rival, Christian Cage, returns from his injury for a rematch. Jungle Boy got squashed by Christian Cage at All Out, but he will inevitably get his babyface payoff at either AEW Full Gear 2022 or afterwards. As a pillar of AEW, Jungle Boy has the potential to move the needle as a future top babyface in either the mid card or the main event scene. The mid card is his next step after his successful tag title reign.
Prediction: Jungle Boy
PAC (c) vs. Orange Cassidy [AEW All Atlantic Championship]
PAC will defeat Orange Cassidy to retain the AEW All Atlantic Championship because there has not been enough build to warrant a Cassidy victory here. It can be argued that Cassidy should win since PAC has two belts right now and it would be unwise to monopolize the championships in the division. However, PAC should lose the title on PPV to a babyface opponent with more credibility and momentum, such as Jungle Boy or Miro, in order to maintain the prestige of this brand new title.
Prediction: PAC
Samoa Joe & Wardlow vs. Tony Nese & Josh Woods [Tag Match]
Samoa Joe and Wardlow will defeat Tony Nese and Josh Woods because Joe and Woods are two dominant champions who should not be losing on live television. There’s legitimately no reason for Nese and Woods to win here. They barely have momentum and are merely as enhancement talent. This tag match does not really add much to the show, but Joe and Wardlow need new challengers quickly because it has been long time since they defended their titles against worthy and credible opponents.
Prediction: Samoa Joe & Wardlow
Claudio Castagnoli (c) vs. Chris Jericho [ROH World Championship]
Chris Jericho will defeat Claudio Castagnoli to become the new ROH World Champion because he is involved in a bigger storyline with Bryan Danielson at the moment and could be a transitional champion here to drop it to Danielson later in their trilogy. Also, Daniel Garcia is the current ROH Pure Champion, so it would make sense in storyline for Danielson and Garcia to make a run together as the champions in ROH once Garcia fully breaks away from Jericho.
Prediction: Chris Jericho
Eddie Kingston vs. Sammy Guevara [Grudge Match]
Sammy Guevara will defeat Eddie Kingston because AEW is pushing the agenda of the power couple here and the main event scene needs more credible opponents to fill the void CM Punk left. These two superstars had a lot of backstage heat and drama in recent weeks, but it seems that everything has cooled down since then. Now, they can finally wrap up their feud and go their separate ways. This is a big toss up, but Kingston can afford a loss here and refocus on making Jericho tap out eventually.
Prediction: Sammy Guevara
Darby Allin & Sting vs. House of Black [Tag Match]
Darby Allin and Sting will defeat House of Black because they need momentum for a future tag title opportunity and House of Black are pretty directionless without Malakai Black, who requested his release recently. Buddy Matthews and Brody King will eventually have to go their separate ways and pursue their own singles careers because House of Black has lost so much momentum that it will be eminently difficult to repair.
Prediction: Darby Allin & Sting
Golden Ticket Battle Royal [Future AEW World Title Shot]
Hangman Adam Page will win the Golden Ticket Battle Royal to earn a future AEW World Title Shot because he is still owed a rematch for the title after losing it to CM Punk at AEW Double or Nothing 2022. He has lost a ton of momentum since losing that belt, especially since he is also lost to The Elite alongside the Dark Order at All Out for the trios titles. Page even lost to Danielson in the first round of the world title opponent. As a former world champion, he needs this win to maintain his credibility.
Prediction: Hangman Adam Page
Toni Storm (c) vs. Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. vs. Athena vs. Serena Deeb [AEW Women’s Title]
Toni Storm will retain the AEW Women’s Championship against Britt Baker, Athena, and Serena Deeb because she recently won the championship and needs to hold onto that title until Thunder Rosa returns for the title rematch they were supposed to have before Tosa got injured. It was completely asinine for Storm to eat the pinfall in her tag match with these three other superstars last week. The disrespect towards the women’s champions in AEW unfortunately continues and needs to stop immediately.
Prediction: Toni Storm
Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson [AEW World Title]
Jon Moxley will defeat Bryan Danielson to become the new Undisputed World Champ because he already teased a feud with the official #1C, MJF, and it is thereby inevitable that he will battle MJF at Full Gear. Moxley will defeat Page some time in October before losing the title to MJF in November. That way, Moxley won’t be seen as a transitional champion who loses on his first title defense. Danielson shouldn’t win yet because he should win the title when the circumstances are in his favor for a longer reign.
Prediction: Jon Moxley
