WWE Royal Rumble 2023 is three days from now, and the WWE has made five matches official for this “premium live event”. Obviously, WWE will stick to tradition by hosting men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches this year. They also made official the following matchups: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title, Bianca Belair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Title, and Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight in a Pitch Black Match.
The following will provide a special dark horse prediction for the Women’s Royal Rumble at WWE Royal Rumble 2023 this Saturday. That dark horse’s name is none other than Chelsea Green.
My pick for the dark horse for the Women’s Royal Rumble is Chelsea Green. This would be the perfect way to reintroduce her to the WWE Universe.
Green was fired from the company during pandemic budget cuts in 2021 and has since wrestled in ROH and IMPACT Wrestling while appearing in GCW and NWA. While in NXT, she briefly held the Knockouts Tag Team Titles with Deonna Purrazzo. She was last seen leaving the IMPACT Zone in November 2022, where she told Purrazzo she was “going home”. It was believed that she had re-signed with WWE.
Green had bad luck during her first WWE run. During her first NXT TV match in 2019, she broke her wrist. She debuted on SmackDown in 2020 during a Fatal Four Way match and broke her wrist a second time. Making her triumphant return during the Women’s Royal Rumble would be even sweeter if she won the whole thing.
Not only would it give her a fresh start, it would also shake up the women’s division (which it’s in desperate need of). It puts everyone on notice. Green would break up the stagnancy, that is, the main roster women’s divisions. She could choose to face either Bianca Belair or Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39. Either match would be fresh for fans.
A Rumble win allows Green to start off hot and immediately makes her interesting. It gives her the opportunity to write a new chapter her own way and chance to put her previous snakebitten luck in the rear view and gives her a little bit of revenge for being fired during a global pandemic.
