WWE Raw: Je’Von Evans Might Be Screwed On The Main Roster

Je’Von Evans is scheduled to debut on the main roster after what was an underwhelming and unceremonious introduction in the commercial break of the Raw Netflix Anniversary last week. Due to this introduction and premature call up from NXT, he might inevitably be screwed on the main roster. Here’s why that is the case.

Je’Von Evans Should Be The Next Bryan Danielson

Evans has a lot of similarities to Bryan Danielson. He is a babyface underdog who fans resonate with and want to root for in all of his matches. Every time he is so close to winning the big one, the fans are on the edge of their seats. However, when he fails, their hearts drop in despair as their high spirits dwindle drastically.

Evans has been involved in situations like what was just vividly described countless times during his time in NXT. In the main event scene, mid card, and tag divisions, he has lost 10+ title shots. The most notable title shots he fumbled were against his arch nemesis, Oba Femi, for the NXT Title in the main event scene.

In all of those performances, he delivered in the ring and told a compelling enough story on the microphone to make fans believe in his abilities. In most cases, the continuous losses and failed opportunities would begin to hurt one’s credibility, but Evans is still beloved by the fans because he is truly something special.

Je’Von Evans Was Dealt A Bad Hand In NXT

Despite not winning any gold in NXT, WWE called Evans up to the main roster. This was a premature decision because championships equate to credibility in pro wrestling. Without any accolades under his belt in NXT, Evans will not advance up the card in a fruitful manner. He is now stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Granted, some superstars like Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair did not win the NXT title during their run in NXT yet still became big stars on the main roster. However, that is a rarity within the confines of WWE. While Lynch and Belair had to jump through a lot of hoops to get to where they are today, that is not a guarantee for Evans.

In this era, the red brand is filled with sharks, ranging from established stars like CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Gunther to rising stars like Bron Breakker, Dirty Dom, and Oba Femi. Without a tag partner, the only space for Evans to fit in is the mid card, and he still has a glass ceiling to break as he starts a feud with El Grande Americano.

Je’Von Evans Will Become The Next Dolph Ziggler

NXT had all the tools and resources to assure future success for Evans on the big stage, and they blew it with nonsensical and chaotic booking that would be of better use in a circus than a pro wrestling show. If they did the preliminary work properly, Evans would be getting anticipatory vignettes, like Oba Femi is getting right now.

The best thing WWE could do right now is let Evans’ work speak for itself. Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe there is a slimmer of hope for another underdog to become the next big thing, despite all the systemic obstacles in his way. Maybe fans will choose him when the administration refuses to take a risk on him.

However, based on how he is being booked right now, Evans will end up becoming a mere “hand” or disposable “utility guy” who is used to make the bigger stars look better in the ring. When he should be the next Bryan Danielson, he could end up becoming the next Dolph Ziggler. Looks like WWE finally found his replacement.
