Gunther is the current World Heavyweight Champion, and his opponent at WWE WrestleMania 41 largely remains a mystery.
There’s a prevailing belief that he will ultimately face Seth Rollins with CM Punk likely to face Roman Reigns and John Cena expected to battle Cody Rhodes, barring any more twists created by The Rock – or someone else.
As Intercontinental Champion, Gunther put on a legitimate five-star barnburner at WrestleMania a couple of years ago against future WWE Hall of Famers Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, solidifying his status as one of the brightest new stars in the company.
Gunther could have a match with Logan Paul
Gunther could be a part of a WrestleMania twist this year with a less polished opponent potentially on the horizon, as PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reports that Logan Paul has been pitched as a potential opponent for the leader of Imperium.
Gunther and Paul could not be more opposites. Paul is a loud-mouthed, flashy YouTuber who isn’t a tried-and-true wrestler, whereas Gunther is all business and one of the most immaculate in-ring performers we have honestly ever seen in WWE.
But it’s precisely this massive difference in styles and mentality that could make a world title match at WrestleMania between these two so compelling. At the same time, it’s hard to get excited about Paul taking up a WrestleMania spot, much less a world title match, over many better wrestlers, especially a workhorse guy like Rollins.
If Paul vs. Gunther does happen, much to the chagrin of pro wrestling purists, at least the silver lining would be that it can elevate Gunther’s own legend in WWE if he is able to have a memorable match with Paul.
Plus, as brilliant as Gunther is in the ring, over the past year, he’s been able to make a bigger name for himself on the mic with great promos against the likes of Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Damian Priest.
