Although many fans thought Lyra Valkyria would get her comeuppance on Becky Lynch at WWE SummerSlam 2025, it was the Irish Lass Kicker who got the last laugh and prevented her compatriot from having another crack at her Intercontinental Championship.
It was a fantastic match that was among the highlights of an excellent second night of SummerSlam, but, for Lynch, the celebration was short-lived as she was immediately confronted by Nikki Bella on the Raw on Netflix after the Biggest Party of the Summer.
Nikki made her return this summer for another stint in the company, and after only appearing on SummerSlam as part of a Papa John’s commercial, she has her eyes set on a much bigger prize: Becky’s Intercontinental Title.
The verbal sparring between the two WWE legends ended up being pretty one-sided, with Lynch smacking down her future opponent for missing out on a role in Happy Gilmore 2 before delivering a low blow to one-half of the Bella Twins by bringing up John Cena.
TKO love to go for the short-term splash
Although Tiffany Stratton taught us that sometimes when personal shots get delivered on WWE television, they may not be planned, it’s hard to see Becky going into business for herself on Nikki when 1) both professionals have no bad blood between them and 2) Nikki pretty much set Becky up with that line.
Usually, WWE don’t have legends who come in part-time take the title off a massive superstar like Becky Lynch, but they’ve done things like this plenty of times before with wrestlers like John Cena, Bill Goldberg, and Brock Lesnar.
So WWE doing the same thing with Bella isn’t entirely out of the question, and even though it seems totally illogical to have Becky drop the belt to a name of the past instead of a name of the future, like Lyra would have been, it’s the kind of move that is in TKO’s MO.
Plus, with how savagely Becky dissed Nikki on Raw, it’s usual for the babyface to get some big-time comeuppance, and Lynch is due for a dose of that after what she did to Valkyria.
It’s also plausible that someone else plays a role in Becky’s downfall. There are plenty of people backstage, in storyline of course, who have an axe to grind with the WrestleMania 35 hero, including Valkyria and Bayley (though they seem to be more preoccupied with feuding with each other).
A title change at Clash in Paris to close the month seems premature, but I wouldn’t entirely rule it out. WWE have done wilder things with their champions, so Becky Lynch fans should be on high alert.
