Enjoy Wrestling is ready to present the midpoint in Enjoy Striking Distance, and we’ve got two absolute gems with eight of the best in-ring competitors today as things build towards next week’s season finale.
Last week, Enjoy Striking Distance presented two amazing clashes as things opened up with 8-Person Tag Team anarchy as Ziggy Haim was able to lead David Lawless and The Runway (Calvin Couture and Tyler Klein) to victory over Joseline Navarro, Mikey Montgomery, Shea McCoy, and Veda Scott.
As great of a start as the show got off to, it all led to the debut episode’s climax where we saw a true queer wrestling dream match between Sonny Kiss and EFFY. It was one of the best showcases Sonny Kiss has gotten in months, as AEW still seems incapable of putting her on our television screens.
While only one competitor could pick up the win, the match itself was an instant classic with Sonny Kiss bringing the creativity and agility he’s proven herself to have at every turn. Meanwhile, EFFY highlighted his adaptability by keeping even a veteran like Sonny Kiss on her toes.
You can watch Enjoy Striking Distance Episode One in full via the embedded video below, and don’t make the mistake of skipping over the opening contest and missing some really special action from many of the wrestlers highlighted to kick off the event.
As for this week, they’ve crammed two absolutely epic tag team clashes together for Enjoy Striking Distance Episode Two. Any AEW fans are in for a treat here, as the competitors across these two matches include one active AEW talent, some that have appeared in AEW in the past, and two even made their first AEW appearance at yesterday’s tapings in an AEW Dark match we’ll get to see soon.
That pair happens to be Violence is Forever, the tag team of Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku, who come off capturing the ACTION Tag Team Championships from The Skulk (Adrian Alanis & Liam Gray) at ACTION Wrestling Bangers Only 2: Electric Boogaloo. This time, they’ll be up against against YoKai, the deadly combo of Janai Kai and Yoya. YoKai picked up a win earlier this year against the team of Azrieal and Steve Scott at JCW Dead End, and following it up with a defeat over Violence is Forever would be massive.
Meanwhile, all of these roads lead to the main event of Enjoy Striking Distance Episode Two where we get the next chapter in the hopefully neverending saga between Lee Moriarty and Darius Lockhart. These two revolutionary competitors first squared in one-on-one action last year at Enjoy Night Moves, and you can (and should) go watch that match at this link.
It was only the beginning of this saga, and we’ve seen both Moriarty and Lockhart move on to make their mark in the industry elsewhere over the past few months. Darius Lockhart has been on a roll in the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament with wins over Sal Rinauro and Ariya Daivari to advance, and with a tournament win Lockhart could gain control over a title once held by greats like Tiger Mask, Jushin Thunder Liger, Ultimo Dragon, Dory Funk, and more.
Meanwhile, Lee Moriarty has been consistently making waves in AEW with major showcase matches against CM Punk and most recently a classic with “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson. TAIGASTYLE continues to prove it belongs, but this Enjoy Striking Distance clash isn’t going to simply be another Lockhart vs. Moriarty repeat.
Lee Moriarty has found a partner for Enjoy Striking Distance in the approximately 700 foot tall Pretty Boy Smooth, who is still riding high after capturing the Ryse Grand Championship with a victory over Calvin Couture, Colin Delaney, Joey Sunseri, Noir, and reigning Enjoy Wrestling Champion MV Young at Ryse 5th Anniversary. As much as PB Smooth will once again attempt to tower over his competition with Moriarty at his side, Lockhart isn’t coming alone.
They’ll be up against Lockhart as he teams with Suge D, a veteran with more than a decade of experience under his belt, to create the fantastically named duo A Tribe Called Catch. Suge D has been all over the independents in his career, but this wholesome king recently had a successful PPW Title defense against ACH that tore the house down for PPW Rhymes Like Dimes.
