AEW WrestleDream 2023 Predictions! AEW WrestleDream should truly be an epic first-time PPV for AEW this year. Although there are plenty of contrived storylines being built for this event, there are some potential show-stealing matches on this card that will be thrilling to watch. The most featured storylines are MJF’s interesting dilemma, in which he has to defend the ROH Tag Titles all by himself due to Adam Cole’s injury, as well as the dream match between Bryan Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr. In fact, even the title match between Christian Cage and Darby Allin could main event the show with rumors of Edge coming to AEW.
The following will provide match card predictions for the ten matches that are already scheduled, as of this writing. Without further ado, here are the full match card predictions for AEW WrestleDream 2023.
AEW WrestleDream 2023 will take place on October 1, 2023, at 8 pm, E.S.T., live on PPV. Here are the full match card predictions.
MJF (c) vs. Righteous [ROH Tag Team Championships]
MJF will retain the ROH Tag Team Championship all by himself because The Righteous are washed and from a storyline perspective, The Kingdom is the tag team that makes the most sense to dethrone MJF and Adam Cole due to their association with Roderick Strong. Strong has been trying to warn Cole of MJF, but Cole won’t listen. Until that turn happens, they’re keeping the titles.
Prediction: MJF
Ricky Starks vs. Wheeler Yuta [Grudge Match]
Ricky Starks will defeat Wheeler Yuta because he is in the middle of an upper mid card push, especially after winning the Owen Hart Tournament. Whether the push is going anywhere substantial is a question for another day, but Starks needs the win more to redeem himself from his string of losses to Bryan Danielson whilst Yuta has a consolation prize waiting for him in tag gold with Claudio.
Prediction: Ricky Starks
FTR (c) vs. Aussie Open [AEW Tag Team Championships]
FTR will retain the AEW Tag Titles against Aussie Open because there is truly no direct storyline reason for a title change. Only way FTR lose the titles here is because Cash Wheeler runs into trouble with the law due to his “road rage” gun flashing assault charge. They will likely lose the tag titles to either Claudio and Yuta or the winner of the Fatal 4 Way #1C match scheduled for WrestleDream.
Prediction: FTR
Eddie Kingston (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata [Unified ROH Championship]
Eddie Kingston will retain he Unified ROH Championship due to recency bias. He just unified the belts. It would make any sense for him to lose the championship now. Katsuyori Shibata is a great wrestler, but he just wasn’t build well enough for this title opportunity. There is not much heat in this feud, and that is largely due to AEW booking random title matches to fill the void in the match card.
Prediction: Eddie Kingston
Young Bucks vs. Gunn Club vs. Lucha Bros vs. Orange Hook [AEW Fatal 4 Way Tag Title #1C Match]
Orange Hook will win because Hook barely loses and Orange Cassidy needs a consolation prize after losing the International Title against Jon Moxley at AEW All Out. Young Bucks already have tag titles. Gunn Club is a comedy tag team who lost the tag titles to FTR in the first place. Lucha Bros would be the wild card here, but Rey Fenix already has the International Title.
Prediction: Orange Hook
Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, & Kota Ibushi vs. Sammy Guevara, Will Ospreay & Konosuke Takeshita [Trios Faction War]
Since Jericho defeated Guevara at Grand Slam, now is the time for Guevara to solidify his turn on Jericho and get a win back with Don Callis Family. This should lead to a trilogy between Jericho and Guevara, resulting in some massive Stadium Stampede or Anarchy in the Arena match that the AEW Fanbase loves seeing for some peculiar reason.
Prediction: Team Guevara
Hangman Adam Page vs. Swerve Stricklend [Personal Rivalry]
Swerve Stricklend will defeat Hangman Adam Page because defeating a former world champion in his hometown of Seattle will lead him to a future world title shot that he has deserved for a long time. Page already has a championship with The Elite, so he has nothing to lose here in this singles match. His singles career got buried after that AEW All Out Media Scrum by CM Punk anyways.
Prediction: Swerve Stricklend
Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr. [Dream Match]
Bryan Danielson has finally broken his PPV dry spell by defeating Ricky Starks at AEW All Out. His win-loss record in singles matches on PPV was so egregious that it became insulting to his credibility as a professional wrestler. Now, he is turning things around in possibly the last year of his professional wrestling career. He will win this match and move on to better storylines.
Prediction: Bryan Danielson
Kris Statlander vs. Julia Hart [AEW TBS Championship]
Kris Statlander will defeat Julia Hart to retain the TBS Championship because she is the individual who ended Jade Cargill’s streak. Although Jade Cargill is on her way to WWE, it does not mean that AEW cannot capitalize on the momentum of Statlander as champion. Instead of just having her defend the title, AEW could add more storyline to her feuds so that this division is elevated.
Prediction: Kris Statlander
Christian (c) vs. Darby Allin [AEW TNT Championship]
Christian will retain the TNT Championship against Darby Allin despite this being Darby’s hometown of Seattle, Washington because Edge will return to help his brother, Christian, win. This show will end in so much heat and have a ton of memorable impact from Edge’s debut here. If anyone thought the TV-14 rating was bad, just wait until AEW becomes Rated R with Adam Copeland.
Prediction: Christian
