AEW Full Gear 2023 Predictions! AEW Full Gear should truly be an epic PPV for AEW this year. Although there are plenty of contrived storylines being built for this event, there are some potential show-stealing matches on this card that will be thrilling to watch. The most featured storylines are MJF’s interesting dilemma, in which he has to once again defend the ROH Tag Titles all by himself due to Adam Cole’s injury and retain his stolen title against Jay White on that same night in the main event, as well as Adam Copeland’s rivalry with Christian Cage whilst supporting Sting’s retirement tour. Even Toni Storm is gaining some traction with her ‘timeless’ Marilyn Monroe-Inspired gimmick that could lead to her third AEW Women’s Title against her arch nemesis, Hikaru Shida.
The following will provide match card predictions for the seven matches that are already scheduled and some other matches that could be added at the last minute. Without further ado, here are the full match card predictions for AEW Full Gear 2023.
AEW Full Gear 2023 will take place on November 18, 2023, at 8 pm, E.S.T., live on PPV. Here are the full match card predictions.
Buy-IN: MJF & The Devil (c) vs. The Gunns [ROH Tag Team Championships]
MJF and The Devil will defeat The Gunns to retain the ROH Tag Team Titles because MJF will not lose those belts until Adam Cole returns to in-ring action. It is uncertain who The Devil is, but he will play a key role in MJF’s story as world champ. Instead of doing the expected and booking The Devil to screw MJF here, The Devil will keep the mask on, remain a mystery, and get MJF to trust him until he eventually betrays him and reveals himself. Gunns have no business winning the belts here, due to lack of storyline. MJF has consistently called himself The Devil, and it’s only a matter of time until someone plays MJF’s own game better than MJF himself. This could be when MJF meets his match and whoever is behind that mask could be the one who dethrones MJF in the future.
Prediction: MJF & The Devil
Adam Copeland, Darby Allin, & Sting vs. Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, & Nick Wayne [6-Man Tag Match]
Adam Copeland, Darby Allin, and Sting will defeat Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne not only because this is Adam Copeland’s first PPV event but also because Sting needs to continue winning on his retirement tour until AEW Revolution 2024, where he will hang up his boots. It is uncertain how Ric Flair will be a factor in this match, but it is foreseeable that Adam Copeland’s prediction will come true: Luchasuauris and Nick Wayne will turn on Christian Cage and Adam Copeland will be there to support Christian Cage, like he always has in the past. Many may speculate that Adam Copeland could just betray Sting and join Christian Cage instead, but the storyline indicates that Adam Copelands respects Sting as a legend too much to execute such a vile deed.
Prediction: Adam Copeland, Darby Allin, & Sting
Kris Statlander (c) vs. Skye Blue [AEW TBS Women’s Championship]
This match has not been made official yet, but it is foreseeable that Skye Blue will get the next shot for the TBS Women’s Championship against Kris Statlander. When Statlander retained the title against Willow Nightingale on AEW Rampage, Skye Blue appeared with a darker, more grotesque gimmick in a tense stareoff with Statlander whilst supporting Willow. In order to solidify this significant change in character development, Blue would have to win the TBS Women’s Championship. She has put in a lot of work to get over as a babyface with killer matches in 2023, and this character change could really do wonders for her with the championship around her waist, especially since Statlander’s title reign has gone stale since dethroning Jade Cargill in May at Double or Nothing.
Prediction: Skye Blue
Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Jon Moxley [AEW International Championship]
Orange Cassidy, a true pillar of AEW, will retain the AEW International Championship against Jon Moxley because AEW might as well make this feud a trilogy after the freak concussion accident that ruined their original booking plans with Moxley as International Champion. It is understandable that Moxley was never supposed to lose the title to Rey Fenix and instead have a bigger feud with House of Black alongside Claudio and Yuta. However, flip flopping this title is nonsensical and defeats the purpose of the belt, especially when Cassidy has been the only consistent champion since the title was introduced. As a reward for being the workhorse of this division, Cassidy should get his lick back from losing to Moxley at AEW All Out 2023 with what would be the biggest victory of his career and Moxley can still win the title in a third match to break the tie at Winter is Coming.
Prediction: Orange Cassidy
The Acclaimed (c) vs. The Kingdom [AEW Trios Championships]
This match has not been made official yet, but it is foreseeable that The Kingdom will get the next shot against The Acclaimed for the AEW Trios Titles. Acclaimed already reached their scissored milestone of 69 days with the trios championships. After 9 successful title defenses, they are now vulnerable to drop those titles, and The Kingdom still wants revenge for The Acclaimed stealing their spot in teaming with MJF in the main event of AEW Dynamite last week. Roderick Strong has been doing the best work of his career in that wheelchair, especially when he shouts “ADAM!!!” It has become contagiously trendy and their compelling work in this MJF story should be rewarded with championship gold, especially since The Acclaimed have done more than enough with the gold.
Prediction: The Kingdom
House of Black vs. Andrade El Idolo & FTR [Faction War]
This match has not been made official yet, but it is foreseeable that House of Black will battle FTR in some way, shape, or form after mystically appearing after every FTR match on AEW Collision. However, it is currently 2 vs. 3, so FTR need a tag partner. House of Black were consistent in ambushing Andrade El Idolo at the start of his run on AEW Collision. CM Punk was probably supposed to be in this spot with FTR, but Andrade would be a sensible replacement here due to his history with Malakai Black. However, House of Black will still prevail because they need momentum for their eventual clash with Blackpool Combat Club, who are still dealing with Orange Cassidy, Hook, and Rob Van Dam in the interim. Malakai Black should be the one to dethrone Orange Cassidy after teasing it months ago on AEW Dynamite. It was surprising that AEW forgot about that seed planted and prioritized the Moxley story instead.
Prediction: House of Black
Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho vs. Young Bucks [Tag Match]
Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho will defeat Young Bucks to take away their tag title opportunity and be the babyface team to battle the heel Ricky Starks and Big Bill for the tag titles in the future. AEW was holding off on Young Bucks getting the tag title shots for good reason, and it could have something to do with them possibly dropping their EVP roles in the company, as has been rumored lately. With that being said, those rumors could just be a red herring and AEW could swerve the crowd by booking Omega to actually listen to Bucks and double cross Jericho in this match, due to lack of trust for Mr. Judas himself. Although it is quite ironic that so many wrestlers are now tuning on Jericho instead of the other way around, it would be too soon for someone else to do it after The Don Callis Family did it so recently. The Don Callis Family is the reason Omega and Jericho formed an alliance in the first place.
Prediction: Kenny Onega & Chris Jericho
Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Adam Page [Grudge Match]
Hangman Adam Page will defeat Swerve Strickland because Swerve already got the first victory in their foreseeable trilogy and Hangman needs revenge for Swerve breaking into his house and speaking to his kid in the crib. At that point, Swerve crossed the line and needs to be taught a lesson. Hangman also needs revenge for Swerve Strickland costing him the ROH Trios Championships against Mogul Embassy. All signs point to the cowboy winning here. This rivalry was pretty cliche, especially in regards to home invasions as a common methodology to elicit heat in a personal feud. It is uncertain where the winner of this feud would go in the long term, but it is expected one of them will earn a future world title opportunity when all is said and done.
Prediction: Hangman Adam Page
Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Toni Storm [AEW Women’s Championship]
Toni Storm will defeat Hikaru Shida because her Marilyn Monroe gimmick is timeless and priceless. It has garnered so much traction in recent months and this successful character development will be rewarded with a championship victory. It is puzzling why the world title in the women’s division has been hot potatoed and flip flopped five times or more this year. It has even become concerning for long term booking. However, it seems that Shida won the title from Saraya because AEW just wanted a hometown victory for Saraya in Wembley Stadium and used her as a transitional champion to lead back into the bigger storyline between Shida and Storm, who have had beef ever since Shida dethroned Storm on the 200th episode of AEW Dynamite. When Storm wins the title, she will have to deal with her former group, The Outcasts, as Saraya will want her rematch for the title and Ruby Soho won’t be too far behind.
Prediction: Toni Storm
MJF (c) vs. Jay White [AEW World Championship]
Despite the infamous bidding war for 2024, MJF has way too many targets on his back to lose the title to Jay White, who wrongfully stole his title in this long term rivalry. Maybe the plethora of targets are a strategic insurance policy in case MJF does go to WWE. Either way, MJF will beat Jay White clean here and move on to either Samoa Joe or Wardlow, who have both made it clear that they want shots at the world title. Samoa Joe boldly relinquished the ROH World Title to convey that all he wants is the AEW World Championship. Wardlow clearly has a lot of history with MJF due to their time together in the Pinnacle. Wardlow had defeated MJF back at AEW Double or Nothing in 2022 and became a dominant TNT Champion thereafter. so he has a strong claim for battling the champion. However, it seems that neither will dethrone MJF because MJF will stay in AEW and “nobody’s on the level of the devil.”
Prediction: MJF
