Honestly, ever since rumors of CM Punk’s return to WWE first bubbled up in 2023, fans have been dreaming about a world title match between Punk and the then-undefeatable Roman Reigns.
Even though Reigns finally dropped his Undisputed Championship Title to a very deserving opponent in Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, the aura around Reigns has not subsided, while Punk’s own magnetism has been stronger than ever.
He’s cutting 10/10, old school wrestling promos in the crowd as if it is second nature to him, and, well, that’s because it is. CM Punk is ready to be the main event of WWE WrestleMania again, and while that honor will almost certainly belong to Cody in 2025, perhaps Punk and Reigns can take the top spot for themselves.
The seeds for CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns were already set last year
Appearing on Wrestling Observer Radio, veteran journalist Dave Meltzer said that he has heard of there being discussions about a CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns match at WrestleMania 41, and he believes “there’s something to it”.
We all remember how CM Punk and Roman Reigns shared a tense, celebratory moment after Punk helped the OG Bloodline win inside WarGames at Survivor Series, and it only makes sense for WWE to take the roots of that and turn it into a WrestleMania spectacle.
There hasn’t been a more anticipated matchup in professional wrestling since Survivor Series 2023 than CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns, and the events of Survivor Series 2024 were both entirely predicated upon his wish and only served to further the interest in a potential WWE WrestleMania 41 bout between these two.
Reigns produced the best work in WWE for years after turning heel in 2020, and, as of right now, CM Punk, who won the main event of the first episode of Raw on Netflix, is producing the best work in WWE heading into ‘Mania 41.
